Snowy Asbestos Winter

Listen people. The Baby Boomers (1946-1964) and Gen X (1965-1979) deserve more recognition for the insanity they had to endure. As they grew up, they were living experiments for norms that are a big NO! nowadays. Like asbestos! The well loved and highly marketed miracle product that turned out to have deadly consequences. It was popular for being used in building up homes and buildings but did you know it was also used as decoration for the winter season. 

Asbestos Snow 

Asbestos is well known as the snow falling on Dorothy and her friends in the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz.” But there is more. Got an old wreath or sentimental Christmas decoration passed down several generations? You may want to reconsider putting that up this year if they have a sprinkle of artificial snow. “Why?,” you may ask. Because in the early half of the 1900s the fire-proof ability and snow-like appearance of pure white asbestos fibres made it a great product for winter decor. Please note, we are only talking about old decorations from your grandparent’s generation. 

Mad respect for the Boomers and Gen X alive and kicking it out there. You guys are truly the testament to survival of the fittest.
